We hear it so often: 'Eat a balanced diet...' But what does that mean? 

The South African Food Based Dietary Guidelines were created by nutrition experts specifically for South Africans, and are based on extensive research. 

These guidelines, which are shown in the picture below, give all South Africans a framework for a balanced diet so that  we can make the most of our lives.

 

Use these 11 guidelines as a checklist every day and aim to check as many points as possible.

You may be worried that it seems expensive and time consuming to eat this healthily. 

Actually, it is entirely possible for a student to do on a shoestring budget!
